Q: Why would the people working in the government care about whether I am eligible or not for benefits? |
A: When you are collecting, they care about catching the people who are cheating the system and their job is to deny those people benefits. When you are not paying your premiums, their job is to catch all the people that have not paid their taxes and if they assess you then the onus falls on you to prove that you don't have to pay. It should not work that way but this is how the system has evolved. It’s not their fault; they are just doing their jobs to protect the rest of the taxpayers.
