Q: What happens if you go on Maternity Leave? |
A: The purpose of this law is to catch those who can take advantage of the EI system. When you claim Maternity benefits it is obvious that you are not faking as you will have a baby. So, usually the government is less vigorous in their investigation of your claim. However, we have heard many times that a person has been denied Mat leave from EI as well as even more severe cases of the government paying out claims and then requesting the money back with interest and penalties. Paying EI is like gambling when you are related to the owner of the company. You never can be certain of the outcome. |
